This is a 2-year project funded by the Center for Integrative Neuroscience Maastricht. We will collaborate with Borbála Hunyadi from the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. We will use a combination of computational techniques to predict network-wide effects of local perturbations.
Abstract:
Targeted modulation of brain circuits is increasingly used to improve memory and treat neurological disorders, but its success depends critically on selecting the right target and the right moment for intervention. This project develops new computational tools to predict how the brain responds to targeted interventions by combining advanced brain recordings with mathematical models of brain networks. Using this common framework, we determine when brain stimulation is most effective for enhancing memory, and where radiofrequency thermocoagulation should be applied to treat epilepsy. Ultimately, we aim to enable more personalized therapies while advancing our understanding of how the human brain functions.
